This special mild-flavored blend of lettuces and greens is a complete salad in one seed packet. Because they should be harvested when young and tender, successive planting is the key to always having something to fill the salad bowl. If you have grown mesclun, you have a great salad adventure ahead of you. Plants are easy and attractive to grow in gardens or containers. Heirloom variety.
Culture: Direct seed in rich weed free soil as soon as it can be worked in the spring. Repeat at 1-2 week intervals until late spring. Sow again when the weather cools in late summer or fall. Plant in rows or broadcast in a section of the garden. Water regularly and fertilize when 3" (7.5 cm) tall. Protect from slugs and snails.
Harvesting: Harvest with scissors. Snip the leaves about 1/2"-1" (1.25-2.5 cm) above the soil line when 4"-6" (10-15 cm) tall. Many varieties are cut-and-come again, so will resprout and grow again. Or just cut above the surface and reseed.
Nutrition: Rich in fiber and potassium, with moderate amount of vitamin A.
